POST-UFC 214: ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Anaheim, CA for the seventh time in promotional background last Saturday (July 29, 2017) with UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones II. It was a fun night of activity that saw half the bouts end within the distance, and with the scraps now in our rear perspective, let us take a look at that of the day’s competitors we might no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Kailin Curran
A decision dropped to Aleksandra Albu at a very entertaining scrap. She is currently on a three-fight losing streak within the Octagon, falling to 1-5 at the UFC. After the defeat, despite setting up a solid effort and winning the third and final round of this fight, I think there is a good chance that the promotion releases her from her contract, considering I thought she would surely get released after her prior defeat. Right now, she is in what we call”Jessica Eye land,” therefore it wouldn’t totally be a shock to see her receive a final opportunity for a third time.
Josh Burkman
Burkman was knocked out in the first round of the bout from the Drew Dober of Colorado. The loss puts him onto a four-fight losing streak from the UFC, the final two of which have now come from first-round finish. He retired following his previous reduction, which was a first-round, north-south choke entry against Michel Prazeres, leaving his gloves in the Octagon. However he changed his mind and returned for the Dober bout. Whether he retires for good or not, I think it’s reasonable to say that we’ve seen the last of Burkman inside the Octagon, and I don’t expect to see the The Ultimate Fighter 2 veteran returning for a third stint with the advertising.
